Scafell Pike Challenge

Beth's Story

On 4th June 2017 at 9am, we set off on our challenge to climb England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. I was unsure if I would make it due to my fitness levels (lack of) and we didn’t have long to complete the challenge. Our guide Geoff was fantastic and really helped motivate us. My dog Lennon also gave me some extra 4x4 power and dragged me up the mountain! I found the heights a huge challenge on the day as I didn’t know that this would affect me as much as it did!

We undertook this challenge with the TSB Ashton-in-Makerfield branch staff who have supported Embrace for the past 2 years and was a great opportunity to get to know them better. When we all arrived at the summit it was a fantastic experience and a huge accomplishment, the team had a break and some food, took a few pictures and then we set off again on the long descent.

There were still some scary moments on our way back to base – walking over rocky pavements, climbing through deep gorges and some steep downhill sections. Despite all this I would still do it again! We completed the challenge in 8 hours and I raised £85 for Embrace - my family were all proud of me conquering my fears!
