Embrace have had the pleasure to interview some of our families we have supported over the past year and would like to share their video testimonials with you. The videos range from families of children with disabilities through to adults and getting help with finding the right package to support them in their lives.
A few of these projects are:
Children in Need
Embrace supported Leana and her family through the diagnosis of her two boys who have Autism at a particularly difficult time of her life and Leana tells her story which was also aired for Children in Need Charity.
Education, Health and Care Project and Independent Support
Embrace support many families through the EHC process and Antionette, Sarah and Dawn wanted to share their experience of this through Embrace. An EHC plan is the document which replaces Statements of SEN and Learning Difficulties Assessments for children and young people with special educational needs.
Parent Support Service
Our Parent Support Project helps families who have children with disabilities through many different aspects of their life from school issues through to support with the right benefits and helping to get their voice heard in meetings. Rachel, Dean and Laura were talked about how we have helped them and made a difference in their lives.
Brokerage Service
Embrace also help support families through what we call ‘Brokerage’ which means helping a family (in this case Roy and Deborah) in receipt of Direct Payments devise a person centered approach on how to support their young person/child. The other video is with Dee who we supported in a crisis measure to make sure she received support after she lost her personal assistant suddenly.
Crisis Advocacy
Our adult advocacy project supports people over the age of 19 who live in Wigan and Leigh. We offer a range of support but by far the biggest concerns are around Care package changes, Housing and relocation (especially with Wigan’s remodelling program) and Benefits in particular PIP and ESA assessments and tribunals.
Child Protection Advocacy
We have limited funding to support parents who have a Learning Disability through the Child Protection Process and as this can be a very confusing and stressful time for anyone we make sure that the parent understands what is happening around them. Simone talks about the support we have offered her through Embrace.
Its Better Together
Anthony and Janice talk about their two differing perspectives on the Its Better Together project. Anthony is a volunteer who supports someone with a disability to go to pottery classes, which reduces both their isolated and increases confidence. Janice loves going to the matches with her volunteer and it gives her the opportunity to get out of the house and explore her community.
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh is part of our short breaks project which not only provides a place for young people with disabilities to interact but puts them on a pathway to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award. This also offers much needed respite for their parents. We offer a fully inclusive group that meets every Wednesday which is also attended by our fantastic volunteers who you can see on the video at the end.
